Revisiting Thomas Merton

This is nothing new. It is not merely that they do not trust one another they do not even trust themselves. They cannot trust anything because they have ceased to believe in God. This is not to say of course that such people have ceased to claim to believe in God. We drive ourselves mad with our preoccupation and in the end there is no outlet left but violence. We have to destroy something or someone. He is the cause of every wrong. He is the fomenter of all conflict. But it was clearly not a measured or carefully considered reaction. It is as we ve discovered yet again a risky and costly path. And we have yet to discover the full cost of this folly violence begets violence. An excerpt of Merton s original article may also be found on line here via bnet. You can follow any responses to this entry through the RSS . You can leave a response or trackback from your own site. Not much on my mind right now. Such is life. Whatever. I've basically been doing nothing. I feel like a void. I can't be bothered with anything lately.
